Hi I have Osteoarthritis in my right hip. I am not in pain but have a restricted range of movement. Meaning I cannot tie my shoelace or ride a bike. I take collogen and glucosomine chondroitin supplements and incorporate fish, greens and cold pressed olive oil in my diet.

I was in my early fourty's when this happened, too young for joint repalcement and I am nearing my late fourty's now. I need my body to work and have a family. Is there any hope for me ? I would like to be able to run and drive a car again !

Thank you

I disagree ......hip replacement is mainly done for pain rather than disability at any age.

Your disability is not marked and you do not describe pain as a problem so in my opinion hip replacement at the moment is not an option. live with not riding a bicycle and wear shoes without laces, until a time comes when pain becomes a significant issue and then a hip replacement will be offered.

Is there any hope for you> LOL......of course, depending upon what you are hoping for....you hip will get worse, NOT better.

This explains the criteria for hip replacement. I would talk to your GP. I was in my seventies when I had mine done but was in severe pain and unable to walk without a stick.
are you talking clinically or NHS? It may be possible to get an early hip replacement privately, you would need to get a private consultant consultation. Have you ever seen a physiotherapist? Do you know why you have OA in one hip?
I have recently had a hip replacement for osteoarthritis and it's brilliant but, I was in a great deal of pain and had severely restricted movement. I am 73. I still have osteoarthritis in the other hip but, at present, am not in pain and only have some restricted movement, but I have a house full of aids to help me. Shoe laces are a problem, but ordinary shoes with a long- handled shoe horn are fine. I will certainly be offered another hip replacement if/when there is severe deterioration. The surgeon who operated on me actually said this in my post- operative consultation. So there is hope for the future.
I'm not sure why you can't drive, but you can get cars that have been adapted.
I think you are finding the limitations hard to accept because you are very young to be affected by this condition and I do have sympathy with that.
