Appetite Loss

I have a double fracture of the ankle and was discharged yesterday. I was in hospital for a week before the operation because they kept cancelling it in favour of emergencies involving children for example.
As a consequence I was on nil by mouth for more than 4 days. Now I am at home I have lost any desire to eat at all. I don't know if this is because my stomach had started to shrink or a by product of the operation. On the plus side I have lost 10Kg in weight and my BMI is now 22.6. I know I need less food intake as I am going to have a cast on for 10 weeks. The only thing I have eaten in the last 24 hours is a chicken sandwich and that was a struggle. Any advice/opinions gratefully recievied .

Lots of little snack type foods that are your favourites and especially keep up fluids- appetite will slowly return.

Feel better soon.
I too have a very poor appetite and find that it definitely helps if you can fancy something beforehand(and hopefully you have the ingredients in the cupboard)then you can sit down and really enjoy it other than eating for the sake of it.
cheer up catsrcool I expect you're just feeling a bit down after your op - very common and perfectly natural. My advice? do whatever you feel like doing (or not) and spoil yourself rotten with whatever takes your fancy - invite friends around i, watch tv, get outside in the garden - really, do whatever youn want to do and don't feel guilty about ! If you like choccies etc, buy a big box. Hope you feel better soon.
agree with these comments, not being mobile doesn't help either does it?hope all improves for you soon
If there is no reason not to, then a LITTLE alcohol taken before meals can stimulate appetite.
Or kill it, woof, as it does with me.

really ummmm? that's not usual.
Or kill it, woof, as it does with me.
Or kill it, woof, as it does with me.
again jenniesmith, that's not usual. Many hospices still go round with the drinks trolley before meals to help people with poor appetites. I understand its the drop in blood sugar caused by the alcohol that does it.
be tempted by those faves of yours, even if it is lobster and fillet steak - remember, a little can not harm, and that applies to a good wine too.
cats - never worry about your appetite - I lose it many many times when I take the vertigo - sometimes go for days without food but by God when I get better I eat like a bloody horse - it will be back to bite you on the bum (literally)
Or kill it, woof, as it does with me. what does that refer to - I know jenniesmith has been suspended but what did her sentence mean as she said it few times.
She just kept repeating answers
She just copied what I wrote.

I was answering Woof. Alcohol can increase some peoples appetites but for others it can kill it. If I drink alcohol before food I can go from hungry to peckish to not hungry.
