LOl...How does that work Sammy?

They send a kit for finger pricking with miniature test tubes for blood collecting. It gets sent to a lab in London and you get the results by post.

I am asking for my SIL. Her GP refuses to test her thyroid levels despite her showing signs of Hypothyroid.
Sammy.....I am not a haematologist, but i think that for thyroid tests, venous blood not obtained by a pinprick but by venepuncture is required.
I stand to be corrected.

The GP is a fool refusing blood tests.
Would it be worth phoning a local private hospital to see how much they charge for the service.
Strange, what earthly reason would a GP have for refusing a blood test?

ubssses, they have to have a GP referral.

Mamy, her GP doesn't like to be told what to do, apparently.
Change GP's.

I can quite understand that, but there are ways of "suggesting" a line of management.
I agree - demanding is the wrong way, asking politely would something be a good idea to rule a problem out often works.

However if the relationship between them has broken down perhaps a move is to be considered.
I cant resist chipping in my two-penny worth .....

sqad baby - how are you ?

I thought neonatal T4 screening for hypothyroidism was a blood spot - but I cant remember if it is routine in the UK ..... oops

how quickly retirees forget....

If there is money in it ( even in a free at point of service NHS)
then it will be available and here is a flyer for a blood spot thyroid test

As for myself - I have been dx euthyroid Graves Disease
and honestly it is a pain in the a-r-s-e and I feel as tho I am falling to bits

Having just persuaded my GP to do the test, Sammy
My T4 is 13.3 and TSH 5.7 ( pick units as you wish )

so pretend you got these results - what are gonna do now ?

T4 normal and TSH teentsy bit raised .... any clearer ?

so I would have this sort of thing done under medical supervision TBH ....

[ the answer for me was thyroid normal but I have the eye signs of a raised thyroid activity. When I heard that, even I went " whaaaaa ? " ]

P.P...fine thanks.

I think I worded that wrong. My SIL didnt DEMAND the test, she merely presented her symptoms and asked if it would be possible to have the test.

Very quick to jump to negative conclusions on here.

I am sorry if I read it wrong but your wording did lead me to think that - hope she gets some help soon.
that sounds like the sh&t kit. do a poo send it back - my sister thinks they throw half f them away - who in the name of God wants to go through mountains of sh&t LOL

Thank you hc.

I am talking blood test Jenny not a poo test. I don't think they throw them away. My partner's came back positive.
