Have just received some address labels from an animal charity asking for a donation.I would like to send something, but if I do, will they bombard me with requests all the time?

Yes, whether you send the money or not.
Yes,I have found that when you send even one communication with charities they then send more which of course you can ignore, your choice.
Send them a cheque but don`t fill out your name an address on their form.
237 they will know by the name on the cheque!

Don't think it will be as bad as when you send for something out of a catalogue. I'm still getting leaflets/brochures nearly every week from companies that I haven't bought from for years!
By all means pay for the labels if you so desire but attach a proviso if you wish for no more communications from them!
Probably

if they are well organised - that is how they raise money for their cause

ignoring you would be a wasted opportunity

if it's IFAW, the answer is definitely YES :-)
vakayu - you don`t get access to someone`s address when you cash a cheque.
No but they simply need to look up their mailing lists!
They already have your address, hence the labels you received. They will know who you are and where you live so there's no escape really. You can send a donation if you want to and tell them it's once only but if you get more requests just ignore them.
That's the trouble with charities, they constantly keep dipping into the same well. The Guide Dogs bombarded me with calls about raising my direct debit, it got so annoying that I told them next time they asked for more money I'd cancel my DD, they ignored me, I cancelled.

Think I might just send a small amount then they will think 'Oh, she's a bit of a tight Barsel, we won't ask her again.' :-)
Haha, no they won't
If you don't want any more letters from them, then just return them(unopened) marked "gone away, return to sender" and eventually you will removed from their mailing lists.
It is a difficult one Batsel,as one would feel guilty accepting the "free" labels but good suggestion by janbee if not.
^^^sorry typo Barsel.

I don`t think the people who cash the cheques go through their mailing lists to see if the name on the cheque matches their database. Probably two different departments. I have had begging letters from charities before, with a form to fill in and have just sent the form back with a cheque minus any name and address info. I`ve not then been bombarded with further correspondence.

As far as I know, this charity has only got my address, unless they are able to get your phone number or email address from this.So I will make sure I don't give anyone those details then they can't bother me that way.

I had a pile of Charity Xmas Cards delivered yesterday, in a large envelope with a request for a cheque in return. today I sent them back without paying postage on them, I did the same last year including the letter with my Name and Address on it, it appears they don't learn.
I support two Charities (RNLI and RBL) all year round via Standing Order, and object to being chased in my own home by others that I've never had any dealings with!
