Son in laws mother has had an annoying little cough. Doc sent her for an xray and she was called back for another. She's been told she's got a fatty lump on the outside of her lung. She's not been given any treatment and didn't ask anything about it, she still has the cough. Can anyone enlighten us on what this might be and if she'll just have to live with it. Many thanks..

An odd story..........diagnosis made on X-Ray of an unusual benign tumour of the lung.

Something is wrong in your story.

That's what we thought sqad - either she's got it wrong or she not telling her son the truth, he's pushing her to go back to the doctor. Thanks anyway.
Chilli....can't think of a better diagnosis.
Best to go back to the GP to clarify the diagnosis, and to ask again about the cough.

I presume a nodule showed up on a plain chest X-ray, and she was called back for a more detailed CT scan. There can be fat containing nodules found in the lung which have characteristic finding such as calcification suggesting they are benign. These are usually in the periphery of the lung and would not normally cause a cough.
Ah.. ChillDoubt wasn't there when I started....
As always Sqad I bow to your superior knowledge, I just invariably give the opinion of the layman! LOL
Chilli....cheeky bu99er...;-)
I'm serious!! You give a learned, considered opinion which with your valued background has been of immeasurable service to many on AB.

I just give an unqualified guesstimate!
Creep! you will go far.
LOL
I hope all turns out well masma.

I rang my doctor this morning for chest x..ray results and have to have a lung function test tomorrow morning. Have had a cough for quite a while now, so I am hoping for good news.
slaney makes a good point........why would a peripheral lung lesion cause a cough?
Question Author
She was called back for another chest xray not a CT scan.
The cough and the lesion/nodule may not be coonnected.
or even connected..
I was told I have an extra lobe/lobule in my lungs, was shown it on an x-ray but told it was nothing too worry about - was in connection with another unconnected issue. Maybe it's just an unconnected finding?

Thank you all for your answers, she's going back to the doctor so we'll see what he has to say.
