I once ate a frankfurter after an injection, and for a second thought I had bitten my tongue off.
I truly wouldn't be thinking of food or drink after coming through a horrendous experience. Yeuch.
JJ I didn't go to the dentist for years because of fear, I've lost count of the aspirin I've swallowed, clove oil I've dribbled and nights I've been up with toothache, finally about 3 months ago my partner had enough and registered and made an appointment for me. I was sick with terror the first time but apart from the sting of the injection I can honestly say I've had no pain at all. Furthermore because I've had gaps filled and faults corrected I now am so happy I went because my teeth look lovely and I'm confident to smile.
Just go for it.

Yes Methyl - it is a private dentist.
Prudie - noticed you said apart from the sting of an injection - well that is how bad it is for me - I got 7 injections on one side of my mouth to get teeth cleaned - it is so painful and the following week got another 7 injections on the other side.

My whole mouth needs treatment and also don't think it is the teeth more the gums.

Sorry Sandy for digressing from your post. JjCon

No need for an apology, JJ. It's still on the subject of teeth and dentists.
