probably only known side effect, it doesn't work

It's called Minoxidil. I thought I'd read somewhere that it did work. I'm still not buying any, though.
if it did work you'd have to start paying someone to cut it off again

True enough. You solve one problem only to find you've created another in the process.
Minoxidil may work if used early on and it has no more or no less than other drugs of it's type.

It is a vasodilator .....increases the blood flow.
"side effects"....no more or no less.
