Surely your gp would prescribe knowing what other meds you are on ?...in which case answer must be...Yes..
Question Author
No Murray. I,'ve only just got betablockers today but had the others ages and didn't think to ask.
But surely your doc knows what your other meds are before prescribing more ?
Question Author
Sorry Murray, I Don,t think you understand my question.
Do you mean at the same time ?.....even so your doc would surely let you know of any problems being in possession of your medical history and meds before prescribing ?
Question Author
I haven't asked my doctor as I have just found them in a drawer as I,'ve had them ages for a shoulder pain I no longer have. They helped me to sleep then as I was in a lot of pain. I,'ve only just got my others today but my heart is racing and I know I won,t be able to sleep tonight.
Then I would wait for proper medical advice....call nhs 24 ....and ask....

Or squad, thanks.
make sure the amitryptiline is still in date before you even think about taking them
PS if you still have the leaflet for either drug, doesn't it tell you whether you can take anything with the beta blocker? If I were you I'd go to the chemist tomorrow and ask the pharmacist, if sqad doesn't get back to you.

2015 non-stop.
It appears yes you can:

Br J Clin Pharmacol. 1984;17 Suppl 1:65S-68S.
Interaction between the beta-adrenoceptor blockers metoprolol and atenolol with amitriptyline and their effects on oxidative liver metabolism.
Kirch W, Spahn H, Kitteringham NR, Hutt HJ, Mutschler E, Ohnhaus EE.
Abstract
Neither the kinetics of the hydrophilic beta-adrenoceptor blocker atenolol nor those of the lipophilic metoprolol were influenced by the concurrent administration of amitriptyline. Compared with placebo, chronic administration (14 days) of atenolol and metoprolol (each as monotherapy) did not significantly reduce oxidative liver metabolism as measured by antipyrine half-life and by 6-beta-hydroxycortisol excretion. Compared with atenolol and metoprolol monotherapy, chronic administration of amitriptyline concurrently with each of the beta-adrenoceptor blockers produced an insignificant decrease (circa 10-20%) in antipyrine half-life and 6-beta-hydroxycortisol excretion. Amitriptyline appears therefore to have little enzyme-inducing activity.

which is v scientific for yes you can

That,s great, that's Peter.
If you need to know about what you can take with what, there is a drugs interaction checker on drugs.com which is really handy.
kat1.....not an easy answer to this.......amitryptyline and beta-blockers have both sedative effects..........BUT....try them.......you will soon find out.....
so watch it.
Sqad has given you the answer to this.

In future, if you have queries about drug interactions, I am sure you would find a phone call to your local pharmacist would be very helpful and informative.
