I wasn't even in my parked car and she's admitted it but my new insurance has gone up from £400 to £846! Thieving bastards, anyone know how to talk them down?

My Mum had the same trouble with Saga. We beat them down in the end, but it was a bit of a battle.
Shop elsewhere dotty. We were quoted a ridiculous amount recently and looked on the comparison sites. MrAsk went back to our original insurer and told them the quotes and they offered to lower theirs. He told them to stick it we are £150 better off.
The no claims bonus is just that - unfortunately it's not a 'no blame' bonus. But if it's a no-fault claim and money is successfully recovered from the other side the bonus is usually reinstated in my experience. Has your claim been settled and has your insurer recovered the money from the other side?
Yes, shop around, although unfortunately you may find your premium quotes will treat it as a claim unless it has been settled as a 'no fault' claim.

the accident only happened end of march, they've said my car is a 'total loss' but i tols them i want to keep it, groupama, the insurance company, won;t contineu to insure me fully comp once the total loss is confirmed and the money paid to me and i keep the car, they will cover me third party until then, my broker direct choice who have sent the renewal as my year is up 29th april, have done the quote actually without consideration of the claim yet or the car being total loss category, they're just trying it on i think and hoping i don;t notice the hike!
Dotty, they are secretly charging you for the nice car they loaned you. :)

lol they can definately get lost then! swines
Also consider that this is probably your first insurance renewal since the ECJ ruling about gender discrimination was implemented last December (not that it would fully account for a £400-plus hike). Women no longer get preferential rates of insurance.
Has the claim been fully paid up yet?

sorry been family hisorying lol no the claim has not been sorted out yet at all, the letter today is asking me to send the car keys and everything else about my car into the insurers! not sure how they expect me to get to work if they have my car keys!
That is how they work, my daughter came out of a supermarket to find her correctly parked car had been damaged by another car that just drove off.Her car was undriveable as the front had been hit so hard it was pushed against the wheel. No CCTV no witness . She had to claim on the insurance to get the car towed away and repaired. She has had to pay 50 to 75% extra for the last 3 years as she now has a 'Claims History' even though the insurance admit it was not her fault.
DJ , NEVER EVER take the renewal quote !
Go online and look for a better quote , then when you find one call the company direct and ask them them to beat the comparison site quote by eliminating their 'cut' .
Even your old insurance sounds very high, I payed £208 last year fully comp with 4 years NCB for a Subaru Impreza 2 litre. Is this your first claim ?

my first 'claim' in 40 years. I had no car for 2 years though and so lost my original no claims . The lady who hit me is insured with saga which shares the same office as direct choice and she has admitted it was her fault, it was on a public road (avenue actually) and not a car park, the broker direct choice assured me my policy would not be affected as it was a 100% blame free claim and they would recover the pay out from her and i would not lose my no claims bonus discount.
Dotty, I think that because the claim hasn't been fully sorted yet your own insurance company will treat it as an unresolved claim. Once the third party's insurance pays out, it should be then marked as a no fault and your premiums should reduce.

I would call them and check.
Did you have NCD protection on your policy? Once a chap reversed into my car in a car park. He very kindly found me to notify me and admitted liability to his own insurers but they were slow to pay out, and in the meantime my policy fell due for renewal. If it wasn't for having NCD protection I would have had to pay a lot more at renewal and then have the hassle of claiming a refund back once his insurers reimbursed my insurers.
DJ Yes the claim is still being sorted, once the blame is sorted out you will be able to reclaim your lost NCB and inceased costs, it can take several months.
Ediie and others are right - your renewal has come at the wrong time, while the claim's not resolved - and they are right too that many female premiums are going up anyway, now we are no longer allowed preferential rates.

You can always try to swap insurers (we do, almost every year) but the same is likely to apply while the claim is still being dealt with.
Dotty, Loyalty mean As Mrs Brown Say's Feck all today, I have just changed mine again & I will keep changing, I learned that with Churchill, never again will I stop with one Insurance Comp, go on the Compare sites, ask your own Insurance to drop the price even when the renewal comes through, batter them, if they will not drop sod them, look elsewhere.
