To whoever is qualified to answer this please.
I have been having blood tests and it appears I have Impaired Glucose Tolerance although my GP at first thought it might be Type 2 Diabetes.
Looking on the internet there is little to choose between the two in symptoms or treatment.
My question is, under the diabetes section, it says once you have diabetes it is a lifelong condition but it doesn't say that under the IGT section so is it something I will have for the rest of my life or could it stabilise and disappear?
I am 68 years old.

parkdale....I can understand your confusion over the terms Impaired Glucose Tolerance and Type 2 diabetes. I will not go into the definitions of both conditions except to say that tests show that you haven't got diabetes, but will certainly develop it unless your modify your life style. Exercise, lose weight and cut down on the carbohydrates is the order of the day. as far as diet is concerned, my advice would be to eat the same as you have always eaten......but less of it.

If you change you lifestyle as mentioned above, then IGT is totally reversible.

Is Type 2 a lifetime condition?

Yes and NO.

No....in Newcastle studies have been done which show that if you reduce your calorie intake to 800 cals/day, then the disease would disappear.
I couldn't live that way....could you?

Yes......Type2 diabetes is a lifetime condition managed by diet and drugs, remembering that many diabetics go on to need Insulin.

This is a very basic resume, not trying to confound you with statements difficult to understand.
