My OH has had a problem with coughing when he starts talking, just lately. He cannot seem to say more than a few sentences without coughing in the middle of it. Not just clearing his throat. I find it annoying, but I am worried as he wont go to the GP. He also has been feeling very drained for about a week. I wondered if it could be a thyroid problem. He has never smoked and keeps quite fit and eats healthily. Im worried now cos I heard something on the radio this morning about lung cancer and the sympton being coughing but as I say he has never smoked.
Any help appreciated

It is most unlikely to be either lung cancer or hypothyroidism (under active thyroid)

If his voice is not hoarse, if his swallowing is normal, ifnhe doesn't feel that there is anything stuck in his throat, if there is no earache.........then I wouldn't worry.

Google GERD?
Sqad, can I ask you why you always refer to that complaint as GERD instead of GORD?

In the EU we use the second one as we spell o[iesophagus with an [i]o[i] as opposed to the US spelling of [i]e]sophogus
damned italics didn't work :(
daffy....no idea....I use both, depending upon how I feel..;-)

///US spelling of [i]e]sophogus///

Is it?.....;-)
Lol. The italics thingy doesn't seem to work if you try to italicise a single letter within a word. I checked and double checked it before posting and it came out all wrong. I meant esophagus as the US spelling of course ;)
Sounds like form of bronchitis. I he won't go to doc., then try "Benylin for Chesty Coughs (contains an expectorant which should bring up the phlegm thro' expanding the bronchial/throat tubes - he must spit this out). Non drowsy version allows him to drive. Available most Supermarkets etc - usually "cherry-flavour". I accompanied by sinus problems keep him in bed.
If this fails he must see a doc., beware of pneumonia, I am not medically qualified! Good luck TOH xxx.
For "I" accompanied by sinus..etc please read "If"

Good morning all. Thanks for your comments. Ive googled GERD and it mentioned chest pain, heartburn, difficulty swallowing of which he has none of these. Its just the cough. Hes not overweight and doesnt smoke and is only a moderate drinker. He doesnt even have a lot of acid food, the only one being fresh fruit. Hes not doing it when he not talking, only when hes talking. I know, I should tell him to stop talking LOL. Ive asked him again to get checked out as he looks after his health in other ways, diet and exercise, but as usually the way, men will not go to their GP. I will just keep trying. Thanks again. Will let you know how I we get on.
