Alternatives to hip replacement?

Hi I am a 41 year old male about 6ft and 100kg. I have been diagnosed with osteo-arthritis in my right hip.
I have enough movement to walk but have to squat to with great
difficulty put my sock on my foot.

The NHS specialists advise against having a hip replacement due to
its limited life of around 15 years or so.

Are there any alternative treatments with weight loss that exist without
having a hip replacement?

I feel snookered by all this people complain of other illnesses fair enough but try having difficulty in your mobility and you will really know how precious your health is.

A good friend is getting a lot of help from a sports physio, including ultrasound, but sadly not through NHS which seems to want one to suffer and take lots of drugs.
I have recently found weight loss to be a very good way of managing knee and back pain, using the very easy-to-keep-to Dukan Diet which starts by briefly cutting out all carbohydrates.
My opinions:

1) Chondroitin taken by mouth is of limited value.
2) Hip resurfacing is an alternative.
3) A Charnley Hip done by a reputable surgeon will last you 30 years
4) You need to take the advice of a surgeon from an established hip unit e.g Wrightington Centre for Hip and Knee Surgery Nr. Wigan Lancs.
5) Take NSAID's e.g Voltarol for the relief of pain.

Which would I choose?..........a Charnley Hip.

Good luck.
