Hi, My husband had a 'mens health check' this week & was told his blood pressure was very high & told to see his doctor. The doctor said the same & gave him prescription for tablets & also he has to go for a ECG & also have test for his liver, kidneys. What we can't understand is he is very fit & well, never smoked, dosn't drink, eats healthly & isn't overweight. He is just 50 yrs old & never really goes to the doctors for anything. We are just wondering what is causing his high blood pressure? Thanks.

Ah!....Hypertension......the "Silent Killer"

There are many causes of Hypertension ( high blood pressure) but in 90% of cases it is due to Essential hypertension and the cause is unknown.

Genetic factors?, racial factors?.......the bottom line....... cause unknown.

Just as well that it has been discovered...........now a lifetime of hypotensive drug therapy........but life savers.
Nothing makes one immune to these things, just reduces risk. I too am on tablets, started in my early 50s, although in my case my extra weight probably doesn't help. Father had high blood pressure too. You learn to not worry about it, just keep taking the tablets.

Thanks Squad & Old-Geezer.
The same situation happened with my husband at about the same age, he has high blood pressure, and after extensive tests no real cause was found, and the reason given was due to it being probably heriditary . He is on medication and once they had sorted out the right tablets for him, no problem.
