I heard somewhere a long while ago, that a certain condiion was spotted and prevented early, through noticing 'red eye' in photos of their child.
Can anyone tell me what that condition was? Is it serious and should I advise my friend, as I have noticed alot of red eye in her 1 yr olds pictures.

Never heard of that, red eye occurs when the flash reflects off of the retina as far as im aware and is extremely common.

I may be wrong.
I have read somewhere it is where you have red eye in one eye only in a photo and the other eye looks black it is the non red eye that has the problem
I do vaguely remember this story but I thought it was spotted becasue red-eye did not show up in one eye in photos (which is a normal effect from flash). I thought the bad eye looked blackish - I could be wrong.
How interesting, I didn't know that!!!!
'Red eye' is caused by light from the camera's flash reflecting off the blood vessels at the back of the retina. It's perfectly normal if a person is facing towards, or at a slight angle to, the light source.

It's when red-eye ISN'T present (when you'd normally expect it to be) that there may be a problem within the eye:

The above shows what I meant the cancer was in the non red eye as light could not be reflected
red eye is fine, should there be any white eye then this should be checked asap
"Red eye" is as Ratter just said, a common result of flash use in photography.
It is not a sign of any condition afaik. What you have picked up is probably based on the notion that if red eye DOESN'T happen in photos of children (or does in one eye only) there may be something up.
LOL...sorry about the repetion, I got interrupted when typing this and a few more posts got in before I hit 'submit'.
this is my friends child. http://www.edp24.co.u...FriendlyPageLayout.ot within days of seeing her GP, isobel had her eye removed to save her life.

This is also the reason that i took my son immediately to an optician when we noticed white eye in his photo one day. he was given the all clear.
retinoblastoma.......Google it.
