What's the best foundation for someone who is now forty, with an oily T-zone. I want something that is light, but has staying power and gives the skin a glow, without looking oily, with some moisturisation, and not too expensive.

Hiya drusilla :)

I'm 34 and find Boot's No.7 tinted moisturiser far better than any foundation. It stays on all day and doesn't look like you've grabbed a trowel from the shed!! It's about 8 - lasts a while too.
drussila try max factor age renew(natural) it looks and makes your skin feel fantastic worth every penny,it costs about 11 but Asda did have it on special offer for 8 or so,

Thanks Lore, i'll take a look at the No 7 tinted moisturiser, and at your suggestion to smiffy65.
smiffy65 - After your reccomendation, I treated myself to the Max Factor- age renew (natural) Wil test it out tomorrow, but it looks good :0)

smiffy 65 - Yes, it's very good, nice & light with good coverage. I think you can get stuck in a rut with the same makeup, it's worth giving something new a try, cheers :0)
