I just cannot get the hang of them.

Either you're a fake tan or a moisturiser.

Do not tell me you're a moisturiser with 'sun-kissed' colour in it, so I apply it like a moisturiser only to 'develop' uneven all over like a fake tan because I haven't applied it properly (oh no, I haven't exfoliated with sandpaper then moisturised 27 times because you are meant to be a moisturiser)

Has anyone got any tips? I put it on as even as possible but it just doesn't work! Anyone any favourites? Am currently using the Nivea one...

And don't even get me started on the smell...

Yes the smell is truely horrible and has put me off ever using it again. I was using the Johnsons one and found it rubbish, like you say you end up with an uneven tan and a horrible stink following you round all day. No thanks.

Sadly I have gone back to the sun bed !!!!!!!!!!! yes I know but at least I have an even tan and don't smell. (apart from buring flesh smell when actually on the bed but hey lets not sweat the small stuff LOL)

OK. There is a Neutrogena sunless tan foam that works fantastic. It's about $8. I can't remember what it's called, but it is a foam, and the color is instant so you can see where you need to fix the spots. Now this worked great for me,, but my friend had a harder time with it. So I think your skin has something to do with how well the products work. This is not a moisturizor though. Once this product dries, then you can put a moisturizor on. You need someone to put it on your back.

I think dancealot has hit the nail on the head. I have streaked with every fake tan known to man, even professionally applied, but the Johnsons holiday sun is fantastic, no streaks or smears so it must have something to do with your skin type.

thanks 4getmenot I think I'll try the dove then for the next one.

Although I kind of wanted the excuse to rant about how rubbish they are anyway!

Anyone else any opinions?!

..I am also using the Nivea one and it's pants...though thankfully I have a cold and cannot smell anything....hang on...that means everyone else has been smelling me and I've been blissfully unaware...uugg... I got a small bottle of Nivea facial tan/moisturiser free with the main bottle I bought, and it is fantastic on my face and neck, dont know why it doesnt streak , but I am tempted to use it all over instead...
I've read a lot about these on AB recently and I still went ahead and bought the Johnson one, despite the criticism, because I'm a cheapskate and it's half price at Boots. I wish I'd splashed out a bit more because I fully agree with everyone who said it was rubbish! I can handle the smell but it's so streaky!! No matter how much you exfoliate it's still very uneven although I liked the colour. A few work colleagues have said the Dove one is good so think I'll try that one this weekend but I was also tempted by that Nivea offer too!
Whaaaat I only went out and bought the Johnsons one because someone on here was raving about how good it was ... can't remember where now ... derrrr

I love the Johnsons one. I got the light one and applied it for a few days and got lovely even colour. Now i use the darker one and i get no streaks. It doesnt smell that bad either. It must depend on skin type.

I've been using the Garnier Summer Body one for a week now on my face, arms and decollete and I am really pleased with the results, no streaking and it has got camomile in so smells really nice. I don't exfoliate, but do apply it straight after my morning shower where I use a shower net, so I probably do exfoliate without realising.
Ok :-) I tried the Dove one and its lovely. Left my legs really soft and noticed a difference from first application but then not hard with my lily white legs :-)

I got the face one free with my Nivea too and it's great but I don't know why they can't make the face one for your body!! *rant, rant rant*

Jules001 what is decollete? It says it on the Nivea face to put there but I've no idea - should I be applying it to somewhere I've not even thought about??! ;)

I gave Nivea body another chance this morning but I'm carrying around some strong perfume as well. I guess I'll see the (bad) results in...ooh..about a couple of hours.

Am off to buy Dove tomorrow...

I use Johnsons i think its great apart from the smell!! no streaks!! and its so much easier to use than normal fake tan! although it does smell pretty bad and the smell of perfume changes when you put it on! i think it smells like overcooked digestives!
Wilsarnie - decollete is basically a nice way of saying your upper chest and cleavage area :)
Thats such a good description of the smell caz21, I was trying to think how I'd describe it but couldn't! Like you I loved the streak free colour, but got to the stage I couldn't stand the smell, well that and my husband refused to come near me when I had used it (hmm, must bear that in mind for when I'm annoyed with him!). The Dove one is a definite improvement on smell, and it's quite a good colour too, give it a try.

I have used the Ambraie Solaire no streaks light tan spray, it is meant to be really good, but i cannot get the hang of fake tan at all either! after using it about 3 times im still streaky! It also takes aggges to dry+made my skin really itchy, so i would say stick with the sunbed! Its much easier and quicker!

Thanks rhona_j!! I will do!! my boyfriend is the same, his usual comment is "have you been using that moisturizer again? then he'll say "have you put any perfume on today...?" er yeah! his roundabout way of saying YOU STINK!
The things us women have to go through....!!!

I've been out of my office for 3 hours, have come back in and the room still stinks of overcooked digestives (I was thinking wet dog but either or, really!!)

In case anyone's interested I tried the Dove. Works fine and more importantly doesn't smell. Hurrah!
