Well, fry my bacon! HURRAY for Texas !

Yes OK it is Fox News

A Muslim association buys eleven acres of land next to a pig farm (a family farm that has been in Houston a long time) and NOW WANTS THE PIG FARMER TO LEAVE!

That takes a lot of nerve! So what's the pig farmer's response to that..... PIG RACES DURING FRIDAY AFTERNOON PRAYERS!

Don't mess with Texas -The clip is funny - even the news crew are laughing.

Yes they can, but not if one side is insistent on murdering innocent people enjoying themselves or being homosexual or having a different view or religion.

Don't some of us get peed off with these interlopers trying to ride rough shod over other peoples country and land.? Did that report say that Houston already had 60 mosques or did I mishear. Of course 11 acres of land would provide a sufficiently large training area for Muslim "activities " wouldn't it?

Yes. Francis Drake and the Pilgrim Fathers both seem to come to mind here for some reason ;-)
After 9 years I wonder who won, farmer "Bacon" or his new neighbours.

(Note the "U" Chris ;-))
It took 9 years to get through planning and build, but it opened in June 2015.

Commonsense prevailed...

// Since then, Ebaid said, relations have flipped between the center and its surrounding community.
"I think we got a taste (then) of a challenge from the society at large. (The Katy) community was just concerned then about how the center would affect the neighborhood around it, how it would fit within the community - and those were valid concerns," Ebaid said.
"We opened a channel of communication about what we were doing and how we were doing it. We are very happy with the relationship we now enjoy with our neighbors.
"Mr. Craig Baker is now a friend of ours, and we regularly meet with him and communicate with each other. Now it's a success story because we work together," Ebaid said.
Baker agreed with Ebaid's comments, saying the incident is long past and the community appears to be accepting.
"Everything has been good," Baker said. "We haven't had any problems since they apologized to me (for allegedly lying). We have a real good relations now as far as I'm concerned. They've been peaceful and respectful." //
An excellent outcome then.
Just goes to show that differences can be settled.

Did he get rid of the pigs?
well whatever the outcome for the pigs, it looks like retrocop got hoist with his own petard :)
This report makes no mention that Mr Baker had a pig farm

"The year of its inception, the center caught national headlines when Craig Baker, the owner of a next-door granite-and-marble countertop business, began hosting pig races to oppose the center after a dispute."

Hmmmm. Quoted as being from the NBC news site:

he dispute began when the group asked Baker to remove his cattle from their newly bought land. Baker agreed but mistakenly thought the Muslims also wanted him off the land his family has lived on for more than 100 years. The rumor spread.

Baker, who makes marble and granite fixtures for kitchens and bathrooms and also owns livestock, said he got so mad he put up a sign announcing the pig races.

....

Though he now concedes the Muslims are probably not after his land, Baker said he is obligated to go through with the pig races, probably within the next few weeks, because “I would be like a total idiot if I didn’t. I’d be the laughingstock now because I’ve gone too far.”

"All old hat and no pigs" on this one.
well I guess every country has its fools who jump to conclusions.
nothing to say retrocop?
sorry hc - just seen you got the snopes in there first
Other reports said that he kept cattle, not pigs.

The truth seems to be that the Muslim Association bought the neighbouring land where Baker was allowing his cattle to graze. Baker owned the land next door where he ran his countertop business. The MA asked Baker to move the cattle from their land, which he took umbrage to and deliberately organised the pig race during Friday prayers to annoy his neighbours.
He claims the MA told him to move his business and cattle from his own land, not just the neighbouring land that he did not own, they say they didn't.

Seems to me it was six of one, half a dozen of the other and the media blew it out of all proportion to make a good story.

It's all sorted now, anyway. Mr Baker is still running his business from the original site, the Islamic Centre is built and they are now good neighbours.
After initial misunderstanding, dispute resolved amicably. I'm sure there's a lesson in that somewhere...
well, who trumped who then, on this one?
