Computers

In the bottom right hand corner of my computer screen there is a magnifying glass that says either Indexing or Indexing complete. Can anyone tell me what this means?

Andy - it will help people answer if you tell them what computer and operating system you are using and perhaps post it in technology
It's creating an index (or telling you it has created an index) of the files on your hard drive to speed up searching.
If you don't do a lot of searching for files on your computer, turn indexing off. Will speed up other computing tasks. My Computer, right click on each drive, Properties, untick "Allow indexing service....". Might take a little while to process.

I use XP but it might be the same in other o/s.
I agree with TTG- in my experience when the magnifying glass was showing it slowed everything down and when I closed it down everything was fine
