Are you male or female or does it not matter. And does it have to be from literature or can it be from film?

Oh, right sorry, im male and it has to be from a play.

Bill Naughton's plays have some good monologues for male characters - the fathers in both 'All in Good Time' and 'Spring and Port Wine' and Alfie in, erm..'Alfie'.  Give you a chance to use a regional accent - don't think it really matters which, so long as it's working class.

how about one of Archie Rice's from 'The Entertainer'?

Thanks, but also it would also help if i didn't have to do an accent, i can do most pretty well, but its easyer to concentrate on portraying feelings if i dont have to do one.

I'd try a Sam Beckett, there are useful links to full text at www.samuel-beckett.net, but he's not really easy going.  If you're after something lighter, but with a dark heart what about a section from one of the Alan Bennett monologues?

Try looking here for some ideas...

Good luck!

seal..i got into drama school a few years back.....make sure you pick a monologue close to your age and type...ie they are not interested in hearing if you are good at accents...or if you can act like an old man....make sure both pieces are contrasting and not too heavy ...also they do like to hear a piece thats not too popular..they get bored hearing the same piece......think who you are and pick a piece you can relate to...it sounds silly but they want to see you...if you live near london go to french"s bookshop...you can browse loads of monologue books.....GOOD LUCK
