Does anyone know anything about the British artist Jack Vettriano?

I bought a greetings card with a Jack Vettriano picture on it, and on the back it said (if I remember correctly - I do not have the card with me) that he is from Scotland, used to be a miner and became an artist... I bought that card from Waitrose, and if I come across another one and there is more info, I'll let you know.
