Carola Dunn. Jacqueline Winspeare, Cora Harrison. All write interesting books.
Bless you divebuddy, I've been trying to think of Brookmyre's name for ages.
Ive never heard of Christopher Brookmyre I'll look out for him. One of my favourites is Tom Bradby, his book The Master of Rain is one i've read two or three times and I intend to buy more of his books, but I've yet to see to buy at a Charity shop

Have you read 'How Al Capone fell in love then vanished on Everest'. Should be right up your street.
survival - "Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors" (Piers Paul Read).
I bought 'To the Baltic with Bob', by Griff Rhys Jones, a few years ago and expected it to be the type of book that only gets published because of the author's celebrity status (rather than because of his actual writing ability). However I was pleasantly surprised and I'm happy to recommend it as excellent bedtime reading:

if you like a giggle I can recommend Single Woman Seeks Revenge by Tracy Bloom (i think it was free on the kindle)
queenie, I have lost my Kindle!
Little House in the Big Woods,
by Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Lassie Come Home,
by Eric Knight.
The Skallagrigg by William Horwood. Highly recommended.
Anything by Anne Tyler. Ladder of Years is probably my favourite.
Mary Wesley.
What do you like? Romance? Crime? Sci-fi,? drama? Travel? Comedy? I love reading and love Bill Bryson, Andy McNab, Stephen Leather, Tom Sharpe, Ian Rankin, Stuart McBride, Michael Connelly, Robert Goddard, David Baldacci, Lee Child. Sooooo much choice.

"rockyracoon, So I expect you agree then. it's laugh out loud stuff isn't it. and a rattling good yarn."

Absolutely, I was nearing the end of one of his books when I lost it, for the life of me I couldn't remember his name so I could go out and get it again.
Down under by Bill Bryson, in fact any of his books. I have just start reading JoJo Moyes on recommendation of a friend - Me before you and The Girl you left behind are 2 of hers and I enjoyed both very much They are romance but with a different twist. I have always enjoyed Georgette Heyer's historical novels and reread them most of them are romance but there is one called The Infamous Army which is about Waterloo. Anything by Victoria Hislop is also good. Hope this is of some help
