I am trying to put together a reading list for my ten year old daughter (just to suggest to her, not to force her to read) of books other than the Jacqueline Wilson, David Walliams and Roald Dahl that she has read a million times over. Does anyone have any particular favourites from their mispent youth that she might enjoy?

I was ten years old many moons ago but you can't beat the classics imho.
Liitle Women
Black Beauty
What Katy Did
Heidi
Anne of Green Gables
Just William
i would sit for hours reading enid blyton famous five, old but they kept me enthralled
Lion Boy is brilliant. It is a trilogy and if she does give it a go, she must start with the first book called Lion Boy. If she doesn't bother, read it yourself, its fab! And I promise you you'll want to read the next one.

The Wolves of Willoughby Chase is great fun.
101 Dalmatians - Dodie Smith
The Box of Delights - John Masefield
All the Alan Garner books.
All of the Just William Books
Terry Pratchett. Equal Rites is a good place to start. Big yes to Alan Garner. Rosemary Sutcliffe is good for historical fiction. I started reading Georgette Heyer at around age 10, Elizabeth Gouge too.
The Silver Sword - Ian Serailler

All of the Anne of Green Gables books
NOT NOT NOT the Twilight series!
The Tales of Narnia Series (might be a bit young for her dependant on her 'reading age') or:
The Hobbit?
The Demon Headmaster
Swallows and Amazons
Lord of the Flies

anything that is fiction rather than real life for now as it will help her imagination to grow rather than true-to-life tales
The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time.

The Jennings series, by Anthony Buckeridge x
The Railway Children
Grimms Tales
Alice in Wonderland
(anything really by Enid Blyton, I was brought up with the Famous Five and the 'far away tree' etc)
I remember reading the Larkin novels at around that age .
Starting with The Darling Buds of May.
I was reading Agatha Christie paperbacks at that age. There is nothing scary or unsuitable in them and there are no big words to stumble over.
The borrowers
The Malloy towers series by Enid blighton
The bobbsey twins series by Laura lee hope
The Secret Garden by FH Burnett...........
I read century of the surgeon at that age although I'm not sure every ten year old would enjoy it. I also read the loving spirit by daphne du Maurier and was captivated by it, it remains one of my all time favourites, but again, it might not float her boat.
hans christian andersen - the best - you just escape from the earth.
