Sorry in advance for sounding vague but can anyone out there name the music hall? radio comedian (30s 40s 50s?) who used to say things like "I feel better now than I did when I wasn't as well as....."I told you the memory is a vague one - my apologies, but at least it's a challenge!

Thank you again, Maidup, but I had tried that and had opted for the easier route of AB-I am so vague about it that there may have to be some humble pie eating in the near future!
I think it went more like; "I'm better now, than I was before, when I wasn't as well as I am now", but I don't know who said it. People used to laugh at the most silly things in the war years.
Arthur Askey?

Khandro_ That was the man!-spot on!- But who was he? hc4361-Thank you for your interest but it wasn't Arthur Askey.
Frank Randle?
... or may be Will Hay?

Neither Quassia- have you ever wished you hadn't started something? I did say at the outset that I was vague about the original question.
Arthur Haynes ?
Have you looked up Chic Murray? It was the sort of thing he said.
Ted Ray ?
lol ejay! Annoying isn't it!
Old mother Riley?
Question Author
Answer-"None of the above!" -But thanks to all anyway!
Are you sure its a British comedian as it sounds just like Jack Benny, or even George Burns. I have looked, googled but nothing comes up. Bob Hope?
Sandy Powell? By the way .. I'm not old enough to remember these!! I'm picking my parents brains!!
Perhaps Norman Evans, Over The Garden Wall
Question Author
Quassia- it may be more relevant to pick your great, great grandparents' brains! I have not given up - merely having a breather!
