Name of book needed

The plot is about a German pilot in WW11 who is inadvertantly involved in a plot to assassinate Hitler, becomes a target himself and decides the safest place to hide is in GB. He steals a plane and crash lands, I think, on Lambourne Chase. German intelligence discover he has gone to England and despatch an agent to kill him.

Sound familiar to anyone?
