My lovely friend (originally from here) has arrived from Australia today but tomorrow on a trip to Lisdoonvarnagh (wrong spelling) - she 's back on Thursday. Members of the family are having a birthday party for her next Saturday - (surprise) - any ideas without her having to carry back weight. thanks./

How about a silk scarf with traditional motifs on it?....I really didn't like Lisdoonvarna...x
A silk scarf?
Question Author
to be honest Gness - what happens since she hasn't been home from Australia in 3 years - her wee sister's death - I know (she tells me so) - she wants to just come home to her family and walk (literally) walk up and down her family road- these members of family make all these arrangements for her (I know she no more wants to go to lisdoonvarnagh than the moon) but falls in with their plans. I know that for a fact. I got talking to her tonight for 3minutes and she just said Conne I am so tired. And she told me many times before when she was home I just want to walk up and down the road every day I am here. But I'll see her on Thursday when she gets home . She is such a popular person - when she comes from Australia - everybody (I've stepped back) everybody makes loads of arrangements for her - meals, meetings, trips.. She doesn't want them but falls in with their plans. But she doesn't want to hurt anybody.

A silk scarf is a nice idea with a nice Irish (ring) to it. Will go into town next week. Not an Irish thingmajig - something she will remember me by.
That's what happens when you move away.
Question Author
^^^^^^ she doesn't want to hurt them
Conne..if she's tired and falling in with everyone else's plans...take her somewhere quiet...just the two of you...tea, cake and relax...x
Question Author
Yes Ummmm - she has been living in Australia maybe 35 years and has hated every year. But had to stay now with having 5 children and 4 grandchildren. So being home means so much more to her and I didn't know until I got talking to her for the 3 minutes she hasn't been well. Hubby died 5 years ago.
Question Author
that's my plan Gness - she told me that in those 3 minutes tonight.
Question Author
Gness - that's exactly what she said to me "Conne - you and me and A cup of tea. ( she always loved a bit of a drink but she has a heart condition now and on medication and hasn't drank in a cuppla years- I didn't know that. Anyway will do what she wants. The loveliest person you could have in your life.
How long is she over for?
Question Author
Has a sister in England and went there for a wedding so between coming home and Lisdoonvarna and coming home to Ireland - I think being in Ireland is only about a week and few days.
If she enjoys a cuppa, you can get those one cup teapots that come with a cup - it wouldn't be too heavy in her luggage and every time she had a cup of tea, she'd think of you.

Is that a serious suggestion?
Hi Jenny, what about a picture from the top /Bottom of the street? Strange? think about it.x
Question Author
like Foxlee's and TWR suggestion but also like the silk scarf so now I have options. Thanks everyone.
Jenny, just out of interest I looked up this name, there is also a Song about the village by a person called, Christy Moore, look it up.
