no we didn't but we didn't lose any more either, we've lost so much time over this trying to make sure the dept was covered all the day, the local police have sent in their toy soldier types and they acted as a deterrent i think today, but tomorrow we are borrowing a uniformed security guard from the Blackpool store, that should be exciting!

Are there any security staff dressed in plain clothing who could pretend to be shoppers and keep an eye out for her?

we've no resources for that, I've juggled the rotas to give better shop floor cover, just hope it will prevent rather than lead to me having to arrest someone, I hate having to do that,

I thought you worked in a shoe shop, not a bookshop?

If you are sure it's this person, don't you have any incriminating cctv footage or anything or do you actually have to catch her in the act?

CCTV is not evidence, the shoplifter has to be seen to put a particular product on or about their person, observed leaving the shop with no break in plain sight, pass the last point of payment and only then can I stop them and tell them my job title, where i work, what i saw and ask them to return to the store to answer some questions. We have no cctv but it would never be admissible. anyway, the guards came and they were so covert and professional. smoked the guy out but cos a member of staff walked near to him just before he was about to put 10 paperbacks in his huge sports bag, he left them and left the store. we know who he is now, bastard. hopefully tomorrow he'll try again, we want this Man With Exotic Headgear so badly so we can use the civil recovery option to search his house.
