private messages to other AB users

I suggested this earlier in a q in this section relating to the deletion of an email address.

Other forums have the option to PM another registered user if you wish to contact them regarding postings but don't want everyone to read the response. Is this something your techies could consider for this site?

That way, if people do want to swap email addresses or get in touch irl they can do so without the necessity for AB Ed to police threads and remove personal data, and also without the possible danger of the world and his wife seeing that personal info.

Does this make sense?

Good idea.    How could you be sure that people couldn't send or receive abusive mails though, Ursula?

The tech eds could still use a profanity filter and scan text before sending, which could bring up an error message asking people to edit their text before trying to resend.

Personally I don't care about abusive emails. I just delete them if they end up in my mailbox. I only generally read messages from people whose addresses I already know. It's no worse than chucking real junk mail in the recycling bins, and only takes a minute to click on a button.

so what if someone sends you abusive mail? you ignore & delete, or forward the PM to AB Ed with a complaint & see what happens
