Like everyone else who is speculating on this case, I can't say one way or the other whether the McCann's are right or wrong, but as mentioned before, if it was my child I would be greatfeul for any support.
The only thing that bothers me is that possible if the McCann's were not doctors, imagine Kate was part-time cleaner and Gerry a caretaker, would as many millionaires be donating? Or that Kate was a single mother? I would imagine that the papers would not have been half as supportive. You just have to see the reactions to the mother of the boy who drowned this week (I know it is a different case entirely) to see how people are perceived differently by the press.
In all, though, I hope it raises the awareness of missing persons in general and encourages people to get more involved far quicker in the future.
