To disapprove of free speech but to think free slaughter ok. How can a mind come to such a conclusion ?
Question Author
OG - therein lies the paradox. A lucky escape for the Swede....
Just how many 'wake-up' calls do we need?
Question Author
Jourdain - Let's see what the international response is this time. What has been learnt this time??
They'll come back with the label 'extremist actions'. Anyone remember as far back as the recent demo. in London with the posters saying that there was no such thing as freedom of speech (or slogans to that effect)?
Question Author
Vetuste - yes, indeed, I read it a few days ago!
jourdain, islam is up-front about its attitude to "free speech", a concept that is attributed to western capitalism. according to islam, allah gave humans the right of speech and defined the limits on what is acceptable and unacceptable speech.

Mohammed said “Whosoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, then let him speak good (khair) or remain silent.” "Khair" in this hadith (or saying of Mohammed) means Islam or what Islam approves of.
People seem to be inured to these muslim outrages, so common are they becoming. Guess we'll need another one in this country to capture ABers attention.
mushroom - you see, when I began teaching in the 70s the pupils would listen with respect to the beliefs of other religions and accept that others would think differently. As the population and influence has grown this has mainly disappeared as Islamic muscles were flexed and they realised their political power. I had many absolutely lovely pupils and equal tolerance was accepted.

What is so hard to accept is that the tolerance with which a new culture was accepted has led to that culture feeling strong enough to impose its view on the host community. I can go back a long way and allowing differences has led to the current disintegration.
Yes. Two hours since this was posted and still no comment from any of the three main schools of AB rite-think:
The Fool: This attack has nothing to do with Islam.
The Coward: if you offend the deeply held beliefs of 1.5 billion Muslims it's no surprise that a few...
The Moral Retard: It's the victims' fault.
There are enough of them in each of these groups, and some serious ecumenicalists who belong to all three.

Svejk,

///People seem to be inured to these muslim outrages, so common are they becoming. ///

You do get that sort of feeling that in spite of Muslim atrocities generally, it is a different situation when it happens on home soil. A more invasive feel.

As the radical attacks intensify, let us hope the coalition response is sufficiently escalated.
This thread does seem to be very quiet.. one wonders why.
Question Author
vetuste,

A surprisingly muted opening to this debate.

Couldn't agree more with your assessment.
They must have been dreadfully disappointed that the American who killed 3 muslims wasn't a Jew or a born-again Christian. He wasn't even a right-wing racist. They're biding their time I suppose for another chance to excuse muslim extremism.
Jourdain...it Valentines day. It's bound to be quiet.
In my last post I departed somewhat from my usual temperate and understated manner, Ag. Do you think any rite-thinker reeding it might take offence?
Question Author
vetuste,

Too bad if they do. It's called freedom of speech isn't it?
There's nothing offensive there, v-e. But I can't think of any ABers that fit those categories (or Svejk's- excusing extremism).

Your willingness to see the best in people does you credit, Pixie. Possibly you haven't followed as many threads on the subject of Islamism as I have. However, keep following this thread: some of them will likely pop up.
