Ive visited my doctor today, and although im going to be having precautionary blood tests, doc is fairly sure I have either coeliac disease or ibs. Although with fatigue, Coeliac is more likely. But is ibs still a possibility with tiredness??

The thought of a gluten free diet for the rest of my life seems horrible!

Coeliac disease can only be definitively diagnosed by having a biopsy done, blood tests are not always reliable in this condition.
You can get fatigued with IBS by the way, it is to do with the nutrients not being absorbed properly and the emotional stress caused by it all.

Thats a great help thank you.. really hoping its just ibs...
I agree with daffy, however in the UK, a biopsy is done as a last resort, as blood tests will be the initial defining procedure.

Yes.......the symptoms that you mention are very common with IBS.

I've also been experiencing a bit of lower back pain. I believe this may be a bit of strain though.. and a very slight sore throat that keeps coming and going.. could this be anything to do with them either? Although the doctor put my mind at ease.. I've still got to wait 2 weeksnfor blood tests.. so im still not 100% happy with what they've told me...
\\\\ so im still not 100% happy with what they've told me...\\\

I am.

If those are symptoms of ibs too.. then so am I.
JM...........medical diagnosis is all about "probability"......mainly we get it right, but occasionally we get it wrong.
Question Author
Are they (back pain and a very slightnsore throat) symptoms of ibs or celiac? X
Those symptoms are "non specific" and in themselves do not add to our present diagnostic criteria.

Thank you for your help :) x
;-)
Give em hell JM if they say what you dont like

There is another thread about diagnosing Coeliac without a biopsy
in the end everyone agreed that one was necessary
as the treatment you have pointed out is so bleeeaaah !
BUT people do stick to a gluten free diet and do very well.

( did a cruise in Egypt where a fellow traveller needed a gluten free diet and the Egyptian cook didnt turn a hair. He used rice and potato flour - I had to translate 'he makes better bread than I do = huwa amal ahsan aaeesh minni )

and good luck - I would have thought tiredness with IBS is no great surprise

Sqad or anyone. Addbbeing lethargic, and depression (in small outbursts) to the equation too? Really getting me down not knowing for sure whats wrong with me.. I could crynim thats fedup at the moment x
Well , you have answered yourself really - you are fed up, weary and worried about what 'may be' we all do it, despite knowing we shouldn't. It is no doubt affecting your sleep pattern too.

Try as hard as it is to relax, get some fresh air, keep up fluids and await the results of the tests.

Always someone here who will listen and understand.

Take care. x
