nb my cousin has just been travelling over there and put some funds in an account so she could easily use a u.s bank card, she is no longer speaking to her boyfriend so cant ask him for help!
Why not? I regularly get cheques in dollars (which, of course, would be checks) and have no problem paying them into my bank account...
If the 'bank card ' referred to is a debit card, your cousin could pay the money into her PayPal account (or similar).
Question Author
i take it the paypal account is international, universal then? i think ive heard of taking foreign cheques to banks but they charge you quite alot for accepting it i think, approx 25 pounds or even 75 pounds, i cant remember exactly but i did it a long time ago and it wasnt good! i told her to just use the card over here to spend on something here then tell them you want to close the account, wonder though if theres a fee for closing it, mmm? she did say she had never used her debit card here so they may stop it if its used abroad, i doubt shes told them it will be used abroad.

ok, so my cousin has a paypal account as sold stuff on ebay before. ive called her and shes looked at it and cant see how you can take money out of an american bank account of hers and pay into her paypal account.she says shes set up a new account where it asks for her american routing number and account number from her u.s account cheque book but ive looked at it too and it seems that you only do this if you want to pay for something or someone and for example you have bought something from an ebay u.s site. any advice welcome please. maybe its just so simple but i really dont see it.
Why don't you contact the bank you have the account with and ask for their advice?
Question Author
she has tried and cant get past the automated service as they ask for a social security number and she hasnt got one.
Does the bank have any branches in UK? If yes go visit or phone one and ask.
you can transfer into a uk account though just as you can move £ to $ - its called the pleasure of an international finance market. If you have any probs, you most likely have a credit card for that US account. Use it and be done with it. And say "bye."
Question Author
oh dear, a bit of a predicament indeed. the card she has isnt a credit card so she cant use it she says. no they dont have a bank over it, that would be too easy. as she isnt using the account or putting in funds anymore, they are charging her 12.50 dollars per month and its whittling it down slowly. im not sure if you can transfer the funds and if so i assume at a cost. paypal sounds good if only we knew how to work it!
Question Author
oh forgot to mention the card has expired now so she cant use it anyway, doh! the new one she tells me went to her ex boyfriends address and she cant get her post. she just wants her money out and to close it!
Which bank is it?
she sends an instruction. end of issue.
Question Author
she has gone to payments and transfers on her online banking with them. however, the set up is only for u.s transfers etc seemingly, ie zip code and router number so it wouldnt take any uk details. she doesnt want to send an instruction, how ever you mean im not sure anyway, because she is afraid they will charge her for it or closing down the account. she just wants to transfer it out without saying anything.
Question Author
nb ive just read your link thanks, re paypal and i cannot understand or see how that can work. you send money to someone using your email and then send it to their email, that i understand but when you enter the amount which you can change to dollars, surely this money would just be coming out of that persons paypal account and not their american bank account?
if she transfers the money out without closing the account, she will be accruing a $12.50 debt every month wont she? Why not just close the account down. Not sure about the exchange rate at the moment but $150 is hardly a fortune
well then, she leaves it there and gets nothing.

I just love the negativity in the last message - wonderful!
next queen's message, not your's evil-sheep
Question Author
negative? all i am doing is asking for help here. the paypal option seemed a good idea but still need to know if it is possible this way. 150 dollars is a lot when you have come back to nothing and had to leave due to a violent boyfriend. never judge something or someone until you know all the facts please.
