Blocked Nostril

For years now I have had a blocked nostril. It doesn't really bother me unless I have a cold and the other one blocks too!

Is this something worth bothering my GP with? What could be done about it? I have bashed my nose a few times over the years so it could be a result of that.

I've been told by ENT colleagues that I need an SMR myself, but am reluctant to undergo the procedure unless it's life or death! I'll cope for now....

That is up to you my love.

It is almost certainly what is known as a deviated nasal septum (bit of bone or cartilage or both) blocking one side of the nose.
An operation called a Septoplasty is the only cure.

Of course....you could just live with your deviated nasal septum.

P.S if the outside of your nose is not to your liking, you could charm the surgeon into doing a Septo-Rhinoplasty on the NHS.

Think I'll just live with the one nostril, or deviated nasal septum as Sqad so romantically puts it.

I do have a lump on the bridge of my nose (a hangover from the last dunt) that I don't like, but I think I'll just keep it!

Sorry I scared you 2sp_ but as I say, I need the procedure myself and having seen it many times in ENT theatre I am somewhat reluctant to say the least!

Am I a wimp? When it comes to pain in my shnoz as a result of surgery that I can (thus far) manage without, you bet your life I am! LOL

It's not bothering me enough to go under the knife. I don't think about it most of the time, I've just got used to it over the years.

I'm loathed to take up NHS resources and go through all that pain to fix it when it's not that big a deal.

I suspected that surgery was the only answer, I think I had hoped that there was some sort of wonder spray I could skoosh up my nose and suddenly have two working nostrils!

it could simply be a polyp or two, I had some and they were removed with no bother at all, no (going under the knife) they sort of snared them so they were pulled out of the nostril, painless, so don't worry, but you won't know till you see the Doc.

I get that too, but sometimes the blockage changes sides, especially when I have a cold. Perhaps I just have an indecisive septum?
