sparrow eating a spider from a web

Yesterday morning as I was at the kitchen window - I noticed a web with two spiders in it - one large and the other smaller with that bulbous behind. As I was looking a sparrow came up from below the window and snatched the larger spider from the web and dropped below the window again.....the other spider scuttled for safety. I've never seen anything like that before - the sparrow was almost hovering - is that normal behaviour? Not really a bird watcher, just loads of them about in the garden :o)

lot of meat on a nice juicy spider seen other small birds do this especially in the early morning when the webs are easier to spot because they have dew on them
Mmmm, nice tasty snack for the sparrow.
I once saw a sparrow snatch a butterfly that had landed on a piece of trellis. Couldn't believe my eyes. As you said, the sparrow hovered, almost like a humming bird.
