We only have a small yard with narrow raised flower beds down each side :(

We do get a huge variety of butterflies and bees in high summer though due to our 4 enormous buddleia bushes.
A Jay comes sometimes. I once saw a bird slightly bigger than a pigeon sitting on the lawn with its wings spread out and its head bobbing up and down. It was a hawk and it was eating one of the Starlings. Nature red in tooth and claw.
Add woodpeckers greater and lesser spotted, nuthatch, treecreeper, goldfinch, wren, dunnock, and unfortunately the occasional visit from a sparrowhawk, hedgehogs, foxes, frogs and common newts dragonflies, butterflies(buddliea bushes x5) all in a Birmingham suburban garden. We also hear tawny owls at night but haven't seen them

In the winter we also had Redwings and a couple of fieldfares as well as a grey heron trying to get to the goldfish

I am lucky as there are big trees, oak and ash in the neighbours gardens and I have the flowering food plants and 2 ponds, one ornamental and one proper wildlife pond. I even allow nettles to grow at the back so butterflies can breed as well as feed I also have loads of feeding stations, bird tables and a big bird bath and while my garden is designed to be wildlife friendly it has a lovely cottage garden feel....I love my garden you can tell can't you...

I only wish the house martins that fly in the area would nest under our eaves, and I also wish we had more bats in the area am looking into putting up bat boxes to encourage them.
