Chrysalis? Although I've probably read your answer wrongly?

Exoskeleton?

Complete metamorphosis & incomplete metamorphosis?

The four stages for butterflies, moths etc.  are - egg, larva, pupa and imago or adult - so I'll hazard a guess at the answer being Pupa.
