Migrating butterflies in France

Whilst on the miles long beach at Sete,France on the Med side, we were being passed by hundreds of small butterflies(brown I think) coming from out at sea all day for days on end. What`s all that about?

When are you talking about? Lots of varieties of butterfly migrate......paticularly this year the Painted Lady
Bleach and boiling water.
oops sorry ignore my answer above, it should have been to another question!
The Painted Lady is a medium size, orange/brown butterfly and is a likely candidate. It migrates from North Africa, across the Mediterranean, in vast numbers The butterflies arrive in France but many make a journey to as far north as Scotland.
