Cats,from Litter tray to Garden

I have two cats who use a litter tray,I have now started to let them go out into the garden.Will I be able to train them to do their business outdoors.
How do I begin to do this do this,do I put the tray outdoors to begin with or take it away straight away.

it depends how clever or stupid they are!!!
My two refused to even use the tray once they started to go in the garden!
I reckon putting the litter tray outside somewhere quiet where they wont be disturbed is a good start.. show them where it is..

Am sure they will be fine!

You answer has given me hope.

Mine won't use the litter tray either if it is nice outside (but if its a little bit rainy, windy or snowy I better have a clean tray handy!).

Mine needed no training at all. However, I have heard that if you mix the litter with soil from the garden and gradually increase the soil as you move the tray nearer the outside that can work.

As for the theory that cats dont poo in their own garden, it's poo. Mine leave me interesting and aromatic little nuggets which you can guarantee I dig up whilst they are fresh!!!!!!!
