Many thanks for all who responded to my previous question.
I have spent the afternoon sorting out the headphones.
My wireless set which I use in the summer whilst sitting on the garden bench for the radio cannot be slotted into the TV. On the other two wired sets the fittings are the same as the wireless ie 1 plug with 2different diameters. There is nothing on my TV which I can plug them into.
The only other plugs are 1 white, 1 green and 1 red which I use for my video camera( bog standard) I have another 5 plugs of the same colour for my GD, HD video camera but the cameras fittings are not the same.
My trouble is not the amount of sound but the speech clarity, ie Coronation Street Sally`s youngest daughter I cannot understand a word, same tonight on the BBC1 elephants film the presenter sounded like she was in a deep hole muffled Help! any more ideas TIA

I'm sorry the headphone solution didn't work - I do find the clarity is much improved through headphones, and mine have bass and tenor adjustments which help.

How do you get on with subtitles? It's not the same but it really is a big help for the 'muffle and mumble' moments.
Not meaning to be disrespectful but have you noticed problems with your hearing with other things such as using the telephone, speaking to friends or such like?

You may need to adjust the 'treble' setting and turn down the bass.

How old is the tv, is it Nicam ? Maybe the signal is being interupted and is trying to switch between Nicam and mono and so losing sound that way.

There are hundreds of things it could be but probably only one that it is.

It may just be the tv has a fault, best to get someone round to listen to it and see if they can hear it going funny.
