Yes. They also know when it is dark or light and warm or cold. Deciduous trees drop their leafs when they feel very cold to conserve energy. They bleed sap to seal the wound when damaged, just as we do.
So go and hug one and say Merry Christmas to it.

I once listened to a radio program, 20 or more years ago, that had some nutcase who said all flora had feeling. He'd used some special taping technique, he said, to tape the sound of vegetables being pulled from the ground or cut. He played a carrot being pulled from the dirt - it sounded like a sort of screaming wail. He said he didn't want to play the sound of a cabbage being cut as he felt it would disturb the listeners too much
Poor sod, (pun intended). He really believed it. The DJ could hardly keep back the giggling. I just laughed & shook my head.
