House bunnies

I really want some bunnies and would prefer to keep them as house bunnies. is there any bunny experts here that can tell me how bunny safe i need to keep my house cos i know they like to gnaw throught things e.g wires!!

I have 3 bunnies that stay indoors :o)
You can buy plastic wire protectors from B&Q or similar, but still keep an eye on them as they can still chew through that given half a chance.
Despite what many people think, they're clean animals and don't really like to do their business just anywhere, they usually have a self appointed spot, once you know where that spot is, get a cat litter trat and put it in that spot. They might think it a bit odd and poo somewhere else to start with, but percevere (sp?) and put their droppings in the tray and they soon catch on they're to do it directly in the tray. This makes life easier for you.
They will have a toilet area in their hutch, I don't use the tray in their hutch as they kept tipping it over, so now I just clean out their toilet area every other day, and this ensures there no smell in your house.
At Pets At Home (probably other pet stores too), you can get 'cage fresh granuals'. Sprinkle that down in their toilet area and that soaks up smells too - it smells like baby powder LOL.

They are easy enough to train, my 3 know they are not allowed to leave the livingroom now, if one of them starts hopping toward the door (not often these days) I just have to say their name and they about turn and hop back.
Same goes for wires, there's a particular area in my livingroom they are not allowed to go near and again if there any signs of hopping over, I just need to say their name and they about turn.
My 3 appear to enjoy watching a bit of TV LOL. They tend to stretch right out facing the TV and that's them for the night, which is sweet to see.
They can be affectionate wee souls, 2 of them like to hop up on the sofa and sit on my lap but it does depend on their mood and its got to be on their terms, if I pick them up and plonk them on my knee, then they hop down LOL.
It best to get them neutered, even if you have 2 of the same sex, as this will eliminate fighting as they get older.
Remember because they're indoors their nails wont wear down through being outside so from an early age, try to touch their paws as part of your petting routine. This will earn their trust that you're not going to hurt them and when the times comes, you will be able to cut their nails yourself, but please be very careful when you are. If their nails are white, pull back the fur and you will see where the blood flow stops, do not cut as far down as the blood flow. Ift heir nails are brown/black, either just clip the tips or take them to the vet to do.
Plenty of wooden toys are available to keep their teeth in order too.
I feed my lot Burgess Supa Fruita dry mix and they get fresh fruit and veg ever 2nd night - apple, celery, parsley, curly kale, spring greens, carrots, brussel sprouts, cherry tomatos, broccolli, cauliflour. Do NOT feed them lettuce, they cannot digest it properly.

Keep an eye on their poo's. If they look like dry raisins, they're healthy. If they look like a tiny bunch of grapes, it's fine, they eat those and redigest them. If they look like anything else, keep an eye on their eating habits and their poo and if it persists take them to the vet.

Oh one more thing, if you're ever planning on going on holiday then you're best to get them their innoculations otherwise you cannot leave them with anyone that takes small animals while you're gone (people who run dog kennels and catteries tend to take small animals too). You will get a little book from your vet to confirm they have been innoculated against various diseases.
Thanx Lakitu for all that infomation! My parents have a bunny so i know the basic care for a bunny but he is a outdoor bunny and can't get enough of the garden! I've just recently bought my own place and would love some bunnies of my own but would prefer them to be inside...I'm scared that foxes will get them otehrwise!
Yes, I have 2 boys (Jack and Jynx) and a girl (Jessica). Jack and Jessica are brother and sister and also parents to Jynx (don't ask LOL). 2 girls will fight if not neutered. 2 boys will fight if not neutered. Boy and Girl will mate if not neutered (see Jynx LOL).
All of mine are neutered and they get on brilliantly, I can hand on heart say they have never fought since they've been neutered.
If you're going to get rabbits that are not from the same litter, then you should have them in separate hutches and slowly introduce them before keeping them in the same hutch.

Hi, I had 2 house rabbits many years ago. They didn't have a hutch or anything they lived in a spare bedroom when we were out and were allowed the run of the house when they were in.
They were a boy and a girl and both neutered and loved each other to pieces! So much so that they weren't very affectionate to us sadly. They snuggled together all the time and it was really quite sweet! They were called Flopsy and Mopsy.
They were little ******* though and chewed through a few wires but in time they learnt not to go round the back of the tv! They did however dig in the carpet which was quite annoying and it had holes in it because of this.
They were very easy to toilet train. As Lakitu said they used one corner of the room and I then put a litter tray there and they used that!
Good luck with the rabbits when you get them and although they are lovely be prepared for the odd wee and poo around the house and digging!
