Do rabbits sleep? Like sparko, out cold, sound asleep. Our childrens rabbits always seem to be awake, and they move around in their hutch at night. They must be pooped.

Hello again winebuyer (are you??). Yep - rabbits sleep. Probably more-so during the daytime though.
Question Author
Hi IceM. Thank you.

Hadn't expected an answer yet. Had been out for dinner with some friends, and the "sleeping rabbits?" question came up in conversation, so I posted the question before I went to bed.

I'll watch out for them napping during the day. They must look funny conked out.

Oh, and yes.

Question Author
ps. After discovering the ghastly contents of Coke from your answer in What Should I Do...?" a couple of nights ago, I carefully avoided Coke at dinner, and stuck to safer beverages ... gin, tonic, wine, brandy.
Question Author
pps. As the rabbit question was sorted out, the other unresolved issues from over dinner last night include (or am I not allowed to post questions within questions?) ...

Are Saracens the most frustrating team to follow?
Is it worth persevering with Umberto Eco?
Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close - great or rubbish?
How can anyone like parsnips or aubergines?
Morning winebuyer

Cant answer all you questions but;

Umberto Eco, was going to buy the book but will await further info as have heard it is hard going.

Parsnips - they are ok (I suppose) roasted.
Augerbines - evil, evil, evil, devils food methinks, yuck!

As for rabbits sleeping, well, a friend of mine had a rabbit, Peter, and we put a cuddly toy in his hutch and he sh@gged the living daylights out of it. When we came home the poor rabbit was lying on his back, paws in the air, we thought he was dead, but no, only sleeping after his sh@gathon!
I love parsnips and adore aubergines. Can't iunderstand how anyone doesn't like them! Even my kids like 'em!

We thought our old Mr Nibble was asleep but it turned out he was dead :(
LOL @ crisgal, sorry about Mr Nibble but that did make me laugh.
Question Author
crisgal, sorry to hear about the bunny, but erm ... I did laugh a bit as well. Sorry. When did you realise the awful truth? When his carrot was still untouched the next morning?

(actually I was really laughing at the notion of anybody really liking parsnips! :-) )

Hi warpig3. Do you have any particular Eco in mind?
Question Author
That's a very cute picture.
Yes winebuyer, Facaults Pendulum (sp) was recommended to me, I had a read of a synopsis on the internet and it sounds interesting but the heavy going is putting me off.
the youngest was telling me that mr nibble wouldn't wake up. I peeped in and told him to leave him alone as he was asleep.
The next day I realised he was in the same position - poor little b*gger.
When the toddler said "But you said he was asleep" his four year old sister said "He was having such a lovely dream that he's decided to stay asleep forever" I thought that was so sweet of her! Mr nibble was buried in the garden along with Pesto the hamster and Beano the 1st rabbit.

For a while after, my threee year old continually asked if we could dig him up now, and see if he's awake!

The mood
Oops! Don't know what happened there!

A friend gave me Foucault's Pendulum to read. It took me a very, very, very long time. And yes, it's really hard going. I had to keep backtracking and rereading bits when I lost track of what was going on.

All I can say is ... give it a go. It is worth it.

Here's what I did, and I know it sounds naff, but it works. Use a highlighter. Each time a character enters the narrative, highlight the name. Also, highlight the place where the action is happening. And in the margin (this may sound odd), write the date or time period when the scene is taking place. It will help you keep track.

If you start Foucault's Pendulum soon, and finish it by Christmas, you'll have got through it more quickly than I did. Some time, when I'm feeling particularly robust, I'm going to read it again to see what I missed the first time round. For the time being, I'm reading The Mysterious Flame Of Queen Loana, which I'm enjoying.
Question Author
warpig3, that was for you.

There's a whole section for Literature, isn't there? May have to have a look there some time.
Question Author
crisgal, your pets have great names. (well, did have great names, at least)
Thanks for that winebuyer I will give it a go.

crisgal, digging up poor Mr Nibbles, that made me laugh too. Arent kids brill.
What a great thread! Hi all.
When I came on earlier, the site was running very slowly, so I went off for an hour...which lasted somewhat longer - so here I am! Anyway - sorry - had to smile at the replies, both good and bad!
As for the Saracens.....who are they???? Rugby players? Footballers? Out of my league I'm afraid - lol!
Winebuyer - you certainly madde the right choice re. your drinks! Coke - disgusting. The rest - allowable!!!
Aubergines anyone? Revolting - DEFINITELY devil's food! x

ACT II: The Next Day.

This thread was fun, but I thought it had run its course at tea time yesterday. But then ... impressive late returns by warpig3 and Ice.Maiden. And what time in the small hours of the morning were those ???

I was sound asleep by then, dreaming of the scene at the end of Carrie where her hand comes up through the ground, except this time it was a little furry paw and a twitchy nose, clawing its way to the surface as Mr Nibble finally woke up.

I was wondering warpig, what happened to the cuddly toy? Did one of the children take it back at the end of the day? Or did "Peter" get to keep it for ongoing Ugandan discussions?

And IceM ... perleeease! Saracens are a Premiership rugby team. They have this annoying habit each year of starting well, then losing a load of easy games and blowing it. And this year, in the middle of Saracens' worst spell of loses, they beat Ospreys in the Heineken Cup Quarter Final. So they CAN play really well, but then they have a streak of poor results. Frustrating.

When he's not watching Saracens, my son supports Arsenal. Same thing - great start, then blown it by not winning their easy games.
Question Author
ps ...Arsenal are a football team.
