why do we get so many ants on one day. we have had thousands today, and it seems an annual event!!

Are they the flying variety? Apparently, they only come out for a couple of days and then fly away unless they get squashed. They seem to walk on the roads most of the time.

thanks for that. yes they were the flying variety, and i'd heard before about "ant day", just wanted to see if anyone else knew about it. thanks again.
Yes, "Ant Day" for black flying ants is an annual event in our garden. It always seems to be around July 22nd, but as we had torrential thunderstorms virtually all day ,none appeared. They normally seem to like a nice warm sunny day to appear and fly off, so perhaps they all got drowned before they could make it to the surface this year !
