I have a 2 year old male cat and am looking to get a kitten for company. I was going to get another male but have been told that I have to get a female?? Is this true and if so are females harder to look after ie spraying everywhere and being in season???? All help and advice welcome :-)

You will always have a problem in the beginning introducing a new cat into your household, no matter what the age, but I introduced a male kitten to my older male cat and after a few weeks, the kitten is the dominent one! They get on fine now though, and if left alone cats will sort out the pecking order in no time, be prepared for a few hisses and fights though.
We have an older tom cat (5 years old now). Two years ago we got a male kitten as company for him. The older cat still hates the younger one to this day, and he started spraying his scent all over the house. Looking back I think we should have got a girl kitten althought I wouldnt part with the younger cat.

Good luck whatever you decide.
Well if you get them nuted they wont have seasons it may seen cruel but it helps them
Worked the other way for us. Our oldest cat, Trumpton (boy cat) hated our girl (Campbell) when she came into the house, and stopped purring for a year. Just before Trumpton moved out when my housemate got her own place, they got me a boy kitten (Robbie). Trumpton got on fine, but Campbell got very stressed by the whole thing. She's settled down now, but Robbie is like the very annoying little brother to her . All out cats are neutered.
I have a 14year old male cat (ZAC) brought home 1 male (TRUFFLES) and 1 female (TIGER) at 8weeks old beginning oct. ZAC terrified of them at start but now tolerates them.Sometimes even plays with then on his terms
