Chocolate Oranda losing colour

I have a chocolate oranda which has now turned into a goldfish! I dont mind but I would like to know why this happened. Fish seem fine, he doesnt mind being called Chocolate when he is in fact Gold but what could have caused this?

I wouldn't worry as this is common with the goldfish family. Even Koi change colours over time.
