do rats become tame with time?

ive got two pet rats got them about a month ago and i got them because theyre supposed to be really friendly and i understand that theyre young but all they do is nip and bite. the come to the cage door and let me stroke them but when i try to get them out they just run away! x

Yeah the more you handle, talk to them etc.. the more likely they are to become friendly :o)
Keep going and having a natter to them so they get used to your voice, as you say they are young, so they are probably playfully nipping which they will grow out of.


Keep trying and don't give up, it will pay off eventually.

Try wearing gloves to handle them. This way they won't hurt you, and you won't be frightened and jerk or drop them (which would scare them worse and make them want to bite more next time). Little ones won't really hurt you or even damage your gloves, they're just nibbling and nipping, but the extra protection will help you both be more confident. It is important NOT to give up and wait for them to grow out of it -- they won't unless you train them -- and as they get older they'll bite harder, so you need to get them used to you now. Soon they'll be running into your hands.
