How do you determine wasps from bees? I beleive I have a Mason bee hive in my cavity wall they aren't hurting anyone but I would rather know what they are for my own piece of mind.

If they are mason bees's can you get rid of them or are they protected?

I don't know how you can dispose of them safely but bees are shorter and stubbier than wasps... if you get my drift. Also, wasps are longer and have segmented (two parts) bodies.

If they are Mason Bees, you don't actually have a problem, they won't dig or excavate, but only clear out loose rubble, probably the best way to get rid of them is to fill in the hole they are in, a bit difficult with a cavity walls.

But if your not sure of the genre, call in the pest cntrol, to be sure.

Wasps are black and yellow and have wasp waists.

Honey bees are browner. There's a picture of a mason bee at http://www.greengardener.co.uk/bee.htm
