Vets being sponsored by food companies?

I had never heard of this until I read a thread on best foods to feed. I have worked at a vet for 4 years now and our food companies do not pay us to sell their food. That is lousy buisness. They make money on the food that is sold, as do the vets, but there is no bonus for selling their food. Where have people heard this from? What companies do this? It seems strange to me.

I have heard of sponsoring students which I am all for. Starving students should get free stuff. I don't agree with giving money to the vet because the vet switched your pet onto a different diet. That is bonkers to me. It should be what is in the best interest of the pet. If the pet is doing well on over the counter food then fine, I noticed an improvement in my pet when i switched to Medi-cal though. Still seems like strange logic to me to give money like that...
Thanks for the answer
Kim
