Knowing what country folk are like, my OH is from country and they tend to say things like, 'ah, just bring me a sambo or something' buy me a drink, so I guess, if you're preparing lunch for tomorrow, your mechinc is looking for an edible treat, maybe a cake or something ;)

I had a puncture repaired a few weeks ago. It cost me £25. The cause of the puncture was a tiny screw, which I recognised as being one of mine. I had failed to sweep my garage floor recently after doing an odd job that involved using screws. I am now more thorough about sweeping my garage floor.
When I had a puncture repaired at a Formula One Autocentre, it cost me £22. However I've had to cough up about double that elsewhere in the past.

I think I got a good deal :)

I will wait a while to see if there are a few more answers.

Plugging the hole up with cow dung isn't an approved practice though, Choux ;-)

get me !! nothing like the country barter
thanks for BA ;)
If you have a puncture that is not on the wall of the tyre, often they do it for free, particularly if you use the same tyre place. If it's in the wall of the tyre, it's a new one and anything from 65 to 100 to 150 depending whether you want a cheapo one for which you get for what you pay as to distance etc, medium range or if you have a premium car.
Sambo? Is this a sandwich aka sarnie?
Mechinc? Is this a mechanic?

DTC, he just loves me :) He really is one of life's good guys and has often helped us out of trouble.

piggy, have you visited Ireland? I have, many times and their vocabulary is a delight to learn - just ask Sunny Dave!
I thought it was a racist term, but apparently, to my surprise, some use it as a synonym for a sandwich apparently ?
Choux, I've visited RoI loads of times, and I'm quite familiar with their use of English, but never heard sambo( sounds racist) used there, but heard it used a lot down under.
I was brought up(raised ) in an Irish/ Scottish household.
If you go for a puncture repair, prepare to hear the intake of breath. This is followed by them telling you they can't repair it and you need to buy a new tyre. They then advise to replace both tyres as a pair.
Question Author
OG, spot on, I am surprized piggy hasn't come across it.

The only "racism" I have ever noticed in RoI is my car is referred to as a "yellow plate". I think UK cars stand out a mile with no tax disc, Irish cars have a long disc holder which carries a current "mot" cert etc. seems like a good idea.

Hoppy, my pal is totally the opposite of that. He knows how much mileage p.a. our cars do. I am most particular about the condition of our tyres - tread depth, even wear, looking for nicks and bulges on tyre wall, removing stones from the tread. I go to see him asap if I think any need replacing and he checks them out - usually disagrees with me. Yesterday he said tyre was brand new, he actually fitted it 6 months ago so I must be driving ok ;)
