Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative? Been with Sky for about 15 years mainly because partner loves the sport channels but it's getting ridiculous the amount we pay, I just want to cancel the whole thing, my partner however is slightly more reluctant to try some thing new.

Depends what you want. Sky is very expensive, but that is partly because they are really the only option if you want a variety of sports and entertainment that go beyond the usual plethora of rubbish channels.
Now TV, which is basically Sky offering their premium services as a sort of pay as you go (you buy "passes" for specific lengths of time), non-satellite option, might be worth looking at.
Freeview is free, but rubbish, BT Sport is good but .... just sport.
Virgin cable I guess is the other option, but I have rarely heard a good word said about them ....
We switched to Bt just over a year ago. We now get the sports channels which we didn't have with sky and fibre broadband which we didn't have either. Broadband much faster now and all the football I need. This is around £30 cheaper than sky was. You will get faults with them all but so far it is working out fine.
Forgot we can't get cable here is Devon where I live so can't compare the 2.

Thanks for replies, I'll look into Now tv, am off to work now but I plan on ringing sky on Monday to see if I can cancel.
virgins very good, i have it and rarely any issues but like sky its not cheap - NOW tv, as Ickeria mentioned, is probably your best bet
Ring Sky and threaten to cancel and then haggle - I've currently got well over 60% 'loyalty discount' with no minimum contract period - I pay £35.60 a month for all the sports and all the film channels (can't have Sky broadband as no fibre in the village).
Their loyalty department will always offer big discounts if you try to cancel. Why would anyone pay full price?
