I have a Jack Russell puppy. Really he's about 13 months old. I work all day and we leave him in the gargage and he does his business there. Sometimes about once a week he'll have a accident in the house.

Any suggestions?

does he potty in front of you or goes and hides it? Does he have access to all of your home? Where do you let him go potty the other 6 days that he doesn't have an accident in your home? Is it a small amount of urine or regular release of bladder amount or is it defecation not urination? is he nuetered? Does he relieve himself on paper in the garage? Does he have free access to water and food all day? How long is "all day"? To find the answer to pinpoint why, we have to try and understand your actions and his interpretation of your actions. Any time a dog potties in your home it's human error, period, if you'd like help provide more info please, I hope to help and bridge the gap of communication between you 2.
My suggestion: give him away to someone who cares about animals and won't leave him on his own all day.

I have to agree with Quizmonkey although that sounds a bit harsh. Why do you have a dog if you are not there for him. I work part time 4 mornings a week and I feel guilty at that sometimes and I always leave a radio on for them. Jack Russells like to work (we had one and he would not settle just being in the home). You often see these dogs with men who do driving jobs and the dog is up there in the cab. They and all dogs crave company. As it is only young it may be in his interest to find him a new home.

Would you leave a child locked in a garage all day.
He needs company and stimulation.the reason he is soiling in the house is probably to get attention. It is unfair to leave a dog shut up all day .Dogs are 24/7.

Oh, I came on to give my answer but see that everyone has already said the same! Poor dog, that's all I can say
i agree with evryone else here - please consider giving your pup to someone who has the time to attend to his needs

kathydcurtis. I notice you have not acknowledged any of the replies to your question. I would think you probably do not like some of the replies. Everyone has the pups interest at heart. I hope you at least consider the advice.

Sorry, that all of you feel the same way. He's very content in the gargage. We also have a pin and he'd rather be in the gargage. He also has a runner outside that he can run on. He stays inside at from 3:30pm till 7am. We love him very much.
kathydcurtis: maybe you did not read my post, I asked for info I didn't judge you. If you provide more info maybe I can help, or send you to a website that might help you. So I got that he can go outside from the garage, is that where he normally goes potty? I hear that some really have very strong emotions about dogs and how they should be kept out of harms way and they are very passionate, and I applaud them for it. In my line of work I hear it all the time then in the next breath I hear how they let their "beloved" cat run around the neighborhood, destroying gardens, scratching anything their claws touch, they are hit by cars, attacked by dogs or other wild animals, or by uncaring evil people, and they don't think anything is wrong with letting their cat out to fend for themselves, now I know none of these others on this thread and I am not talking about them, I am just trying to prove a point why I did not say anything against what you are doing, I am trying to help the dog and you get on the same page. Personally I agree with what they say, if you have no time for a dog get a stuffed animal, but that still does not address the problem at hand, so if you'd still like a professional opinion give me more info.
